Prior to deciding on a contractor we followed some tried and trusted sources that helped us find the "right" contractor to get the job done.
Some tips for finding a contractor:
1. Get a referral. Since we are not from Fort Myers we asked our real estate agent for a referral. I also contacted the Southwest Florida Real Estate Investment Group for referrals. Bottom line, shop around.
2. Get at least three bids.
3. Check to make sure they are licensed.
4. Check the Better Business Bureau to make sure there are no compliants against them.
5. Meet the contractor in person.
6. Check references.
7. Go with your gut, if it doesn't feel right don't hire them.Do you have any tips for finding the "right" contractor?

Thank you Connie,
We are very excited about this home but fearful of the journey to get it to where we want it to be. Another new experience.

What a great idea – to document your journey and get input at the same time:)!
It will be so satisfying once you see progress and can finally relax in your vacation home.
For the kitchen, I would stick to light cabinets since it is a small galley. This way you can add color to the counter tops and/or the walls. Can the wall on the right have a pass through window that misses the beams? That will open up the kitchen and allow conversation as well as a place to hand food over to the dining room.
Have fun!
Colleen
Hello Colleen! We are trying to figure out what to do with that wall on the right. The problem we ran into is that part of the living room and kitchen was originally a patio so the support beams are concrete and are awkwardly placed. It’s possible to have a pass through we just have to be creative to make sure it doesn’t look crazy and not cost more than we paid for the house! thanks for voting and keep checking for updates.
